National Geographic Mission Expedition

Art Direction / Robotics

National Geographic Channel / Deeplocal

National Geographic Channel wanted to create an unconventional promotion for their Expedition Week series. The week of specials features explorers looking for answers to historical mysteries, including canibalism in Papua New Guinea and the case of Jack the Ripper in London. To follow the spirit of real-world adventure, we created a minature set featuring scenery from Expedition Week. Users online could control a tiny train and explore the set at eye-level through a camera.

My responsibilities included developing the overall world layout and giving art direction to a team of model makers, contracted from a local model train shop. I also constructed the robot train, including wireless control, wireless video, and pan-tilt camera system.
